Terms of Service
Effective July 27, 2026 · Version 2026-07-27
These terms describe how Next Up works and what you agree to when you use it. They cover Player Spots, how and when your card is charged, when a match locks, and what happens if you cancel.
1. Agreement
These terms are between you and the operator of Next Up (“Next Up”). By creating an account, booking a game, or reserving a Player Spot, you agree to these terms and acknowledge the Privacy Policy.
2. Eligibility and your account
- You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian must accept these terms for you.
- You are responsible for everything that happens under your account, including keeping your password private and your email and phone details accurate.
- One account per person. Do not share your account or impersonate someone else.
- Tell us immediately if you believe someone else has accessed your account.
3. What Next Up is — and is not
Next Up is a booking and coordination platform. We are not the operator of the venues listed in the app, we do not referee or supervise games, and we do not employ facility staff. The venue is responsible for the field, its condition and its own house rules.
4. Facility owners
- You may only list a venue you are authorised to operate and rent out.
- You must keep availability, field details, capacity and pricing accurate, including per-duration rental rates.
- You must honour bookings confirmed through Next Up.
- You must publish a cancellation policy for your venue and apply it consistently.
- You are responsible for the safety, insurance, licensing and legal compliance of your facility.
- Facility access is granted by invitation only. Do not share your invite PIN or facility credentials with anyone who is not authorised to manage the venue.
5. Player Spots
A private match is divided into Player Spots. Every participant occupies exactly one spot. A spot is in one of three states:
- Available — nobody has paid for it.
- Paid, awaiting claim — someone has paid for it but no player has claimed it yet.
- Paid and claimed — a signed-in player has claimed it and is expected to attend.
- A captain may reserve and prepay several spots and share a single invite link so others can claim them at no charge.
- You must be signed in to claim a spot. Claiming is first-come, first-served and final once completed.
- Prepaid spots that are never claimed remain the paying player's responsibility. Money paid for an unclaimed spot is not automatically refunded.
- Once the first spot in a match is reserved, the match date, time, venue and field are frozen and cannot be changed.
- The number of spots can be increased up to the field's capacity, but never reduced once a spot has been reserved.
6. Prices, fees and how your card is charged
- Split bookings: you pay your share of the venue rental plus a $1.99 Next Up service fee per player.
- Full-field bookings: you pay the venue rental plus a Next Up service fee of 10% with a minimum of $9.99.
- All amounts are calculated by Next Up's servers from the venue's own pricing. The price shown at checkout is the full amount you will owe.
- Card details are entered into Stripe's checkout. Next Up never receives or stores your card number.
Authorisation, then capture
For private matches we place an authorisation hold on your card when you reserve a spot. Your card is only actually charged when the match locks. If the match never locks, the hold is released and you are not charged.
7. When a match locks
A private match locks — and cards are charged — only when both are true:
- At least 60% of the Player Spots have been claimed by signed-in players, and
- The venue rental is fully covered by money that has been secured.
The 24-hour captain decision
If a match has not locked by the decision deadline, the captain is asked to choose one of:
- Open the remaining spots to the public so any player can join and pay.
- Cover the remaining balance themselves, so the match locks.
- Let the match be cancelled, in which case all authorisation holds are released and nobody is charged.
If the captain does not decide, the match is cancelled and holds are released. A captain who chooses to cover the balance is charged that amount.
8. Cancellations and refunds
- Before the match locks: if you cancel, you receive a 40% refund. The remaining 60% is retained under the cancellation policy to compensate for the spot being held out of circulation.
- After the match locks: no refund is provided, unless the venue’s own cancellation policy or applicable law requires otherwise.
- Replacing your spot after the match locks: if you can no longer attend a locked match, you may replace or transfer your Player Spot through Next Up where that feature is available. A refund may be issued only after another player successfully claims and pays for that Player Spot, unless applicable law or the venue’s own cancellation policy provides greater rights.
- If the match is cancelled by Next Up, the venue, or because it failed to lock: authorisation holds are released and captured payments are refunded according to the applicable policy.
- Each venue may publish its own cancellation policy. Where a venue's policy is more generous than ours, the venue's policy applies. Where applicable consumer law gives you stronger rights, that law applies.
- No-shows are not refunded. If you claim a spot you are expected to attend, and repeated no-shows may result in suspension.
9. Chargebacks and payment disputes
If you believe a charge is wrong, contact us first at support@gotnextup.com — most issues are resolved quickly. Opening a chargeback without contacting us may result in your account being suspended while the dispute is investigated. We retain booking and payment records so that disputes can be resolved fairly.
10. Prohibited conduct
- Harassment, threats, hate speech, discrimination or violence, on or off the field.
- Posting content that is unlawful, sexually explicit, or infringes someone else's rights.
- Sharing, guessing or brute-forcing facility invite PINs, or using facility credentials you were not given.
- Attempting to gain a facility or admin role you were not granted.
- Interfering with the platform: scraping, probing, circumventing rate limits or access controls, or manipulating prices, rosters or payment flows.
- Creating fake accounts, fake bookings or fake reviews.
- Reselling Player Spots for profit outside the platform.
11. Your content, chats and community
- You keep ownership of what you post. You grant Next Up a licence to host and display it so the app can function.
- You are responsible for what you post and send. Chats are visible to the other members of that conversation.
- You can report or block abusive users. We review reports and may remove content or suspend accounts.
- We may remove content that violates these terms, but we do not pre-screen everything and are not responsible for what other users post.
12. Sports participation and assumption of risk
Soccer is a physical contact sport. By joining a game you acknowledge and accept the ordinary risks of participation, including injury from contact, falls, playing surfaces, weather and the actions of other players. You confirm you are physically fit to play and responsible for your own health, insurance and equipment.
You are responsible for following the rules of the venue you attend. Next Up does not supervise games and is not responsible for the conduct of other players or for the condition of any facility.
13. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms, presents a safety or fraud risk, or is required to be removed by law. You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Account → Delete Account. Deleting your account does not cancel bookings you have already made or release you from amounts already owed.
14. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Next Up is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, and Next Up is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, arising from your use of the platform. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid through Next Up in the twelve months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence where applicable law so provides.
15. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, United States. Any disputes arising out of or relating to these terms or your use of Next Up will be handled in the appropriate state or federal courts located in New Jersey, except where applicable law requires otherwise.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version and effective date at the top of this page always reflect the current version. If a change is material we will ask you to accept the new version, and we record which version you accepted.
